24 March 2016

sun behind the clouds

keeps half an eye on us with

distant affection

On Maundy Thursday, after the Mass commemorating Jesus’s last supper, we strip the altar and cover or remove all the statues in preparation for Good Friday. It’s always a desolate moment.

the church emptied now

of everything but silence

stripped back to stone

so one enormous absence

fills it like incense or prayer

  1. Dear Andrea

Easter blessings. How are you? Where are you? In Ireland I believe. We will not get there this year but would love to meet up next year. Hope all is well. Bridget.
